1.) Based on the video, what are your thoughts and reactions on how popular culture portrays PR?
Popular culture plays an immense role in our society, and has for years. From films and television shows to music and sports, popular culture has a large influence on public opinion. Based on the video, I believe that pop culture portrays PR professionals in mostly negative ways. Television and movies are the main source of Public Relations portrayal. People view PR professionals as annoying and selfish who do not care about any others concerns except their main goal. There are countless movies and tv shows that presents PR professionals in this way.
2.) Brainstorm 2 to 3 ideas to change the perception of PR. How can you improve the Public's understanding of PR?
I think that the main problem with PR that is concerning to the public it is full of lies. This makes believe that their clients are unreliable and untrustworthy, which gives them a bad image. Telling the truth is a great example on how to change the perception of PR. Another problem involves communication. Having good communication and being open to criticism and comments would be a great look and would benefit the perception of the industry.
There are multiple ways to improve the Public's understanding of PR. One example is social media. Considering how big social media is nowadays, creating informational posts would be a great way. Also, keeping the public updating with a certain companies current status would be very helpful. This would keep the public informed and would eliminate the curiosity factor of the public regarding any situation. Networking is also helpful. Exchanging information with people in other fields helps get word out to all types of careers.
